DISCO OF THE SKIN (BLEACHING BE WHAT?)

It’s puzzling observing how people would stop at nothing to get their skin colors changed. Women and quite stunningly men these days strive at all cost to comprehensively “whiten” their skin. Seriously speaking, I think bleaching is a fundamental disaster and smacks of a dangerous trend, even worse than an inadvertent desire for suicide.

For many, the mere fact that they have a Lightened skin boosts their confidence and instills in them a sense of beauty. So just to achieve this feat, they spend a fortune on all sorts of assorted cosmetics and ranges of toxic chemicals, oblivious of the impending atrocities, which would be propelled by the relentless use of these ferocious cosmetics.

As Ghana is a “shop/kiosk owning” country, it isn’t any difficult for people to procure these bleaching creams, either from street hawkers, kiosks, stalls, stores and other ventures, who  briskly sell these dangerous chemicals, satisfying the gluttonous demand of customers.

The demand for these products is so inversely elastic that for me, it is only bleaching creams, that actually contradict the economic theory that “the higher the price, the lower the quantity demanded” and vice versa, for these creams, whether the prices are tripled or quadrupled, the demand remains stable…….this stems from the normal Ghanaian impression of justifying quality with a high price. In any case, people do not care about the price; they just want their skin colors changed.

This clearly shows the desperation of people to be fair at all cost.
They end up with multicolored skins, caused by the incessant use of bleaching creams, which are exceptionally conspicuous in any part of the market.

It’s disheartening that people will strive at all at all cost to bleach their skin, sidelining the impending dangers it obviously poses to them consequently.

Evidently, it appears that most people are walking along the perilous dungeons of bleaching and it’s interesting to fathom the enormity of ignoramus of people considering the barrage of dangers these flurry of toxic substances cause and its perilous aftermath.

I see a lot of people, whom I knew back then as dark colored mysteriously turning out to be whiter than white, struggling so hard to be what they’re not.

I honestly thought our women would be satisfied with the wide range of “ghostly Makeup” they use but now, it seems there’s an interesting trend of an “all bleaching campaign”. Today you see someone with his/her natural color and then tomorrow, he/she has a different color. Some people bleach so much that I’m sure if they had the chance, they will even bleach “there”, I mean “there”…………….

Quite unnervingly, an erroneous impression is created of these “skin tripping” chemicals as though they were just skin tones.

Just so, you would appreciate  the importance of what I’m saying, I think it would be of utmost relevance to you and I the depth of atrocious consequences bleaching creams have on the body which in most cases are very conspicuous for everyone to see.

First of all, these bleaching creams are made from highly toxic substances, which have inimical impacts on the skin. Hydroquinone, Mercury (which is severely toxic), Arsenic (Highly Poisonous) and Alpha Hydroxic Acids(Found in most facial chemicals peels) are the four main catastrophic ingredients, used in preparing bleaching cream.

These chemicals comprehensively strip the skin of its coating (melanin) which protects it against the detrimental ultra violet rays of the sun.

To be contd
