A basic characteristic of a democratic country, "Free Speech", has long being misinterpreted. In Ghana, Free Speech erroneously implies insulting and castigating the character of persons in opposing Parties with offensive and infuriating languages, which propel a far more derogatory insult from the other end.
When these 2 political parties (Narcotic Peddlers People and Notorious Drug Commission) meet on radio, it’s just the same old stories with different casts. The NDC representative would always support government decisions and policies even if he/she knows honestly that it’s wrong. The NPP representative on the other hand would always oppose the government even though he/she might not be oblivious of the importance of certain governmental actions. For me, the only difference between these 2 entities is the apparent fact that when they engage in their usual political hecklings on the radio or TV stations, they are both wrong but the difference is that one would be “wronger”.
The NPP does “the wrong things rightly” and the NDC does the “right things wrongly”.
The rate of verbal violence that is going on in our political scene casts a slur on our moral values and hitherto circumspect nature be-deviling our body politic.
We’ve overstepped the bounds of our democratic credentials into the stinky gutters with the kinds of unsavory remarks, ludicrous and malicious insults, hurled at each other all in the name of partisan politicking, whose coming into power wouldn’t even inure to the benefit the ordinary people used for the “dirty works” but ultimately the elite in the various Parties.
No wonder the so called “foot soldiers”, feeling so used, rant and bark at the President for Jobs, which they’ve failed to provide them with, reneging on their frivolous campaign promises to provide them with lucrative jobs.
I still can’t believe that the youth who have been so much used to gain power have still not learnt from their mistakes. They still continue the verbal harassment of each other in the name of Political Party.
Most importantly, i think it would be of great importance to us, if we should look again at the laughable activities of the "serial callers" who know nothing about Economics, Politics or Law, calling into radio discussions just to hurl inciting insults at other people or perhaps certain activities of the Government, even though they know practically nothing about the intricacies and complexities of what is actually going own.
They go ahead with their inadvertent ignorance, by virtue of the sponsorship they get from the various Political Parties who they speak for. Meanwhile, in real sense, they show their basic flaws and deficiency about the issues, in the way they approach them and the uncivil manner in which they conduct themselves. I seriously think this people should be stopped immediately since their activities are inimical to the development of this country. Their stance are always predictable and partisan, and does not represent the actual views of the ordinary Ghanaian.
This is a democracy where someone, whom I’m sure you would agree with me is a nincompoop, described the President as a Miniature Chimpanzee. He was arrested, but the President consequently caused his release. Instead of being thankful, he continues this repulsive behavior with impunity.
Just yesterday, a twit named “Junkie” sorry John Kumah or whatever made a repulsive and disgusting allegation that the President was a gay because his Party flag bearer was also being insulted. He was arrested but subsequently released upon the direction of the President. When he comes out, he continues his outrageous and insolent behavior. He says “the president ordered for my arrest so if he caused my release, what is news about that"?
This guy’s behavior is irresponsible, horrendous and smacks of improper home training and is a bad example for the youth. Indeed this obscene and vulgar language is expected to be condemned by all but quite stunningly, the NPP comes to support this absolute balderdash.
The media cannot escape the torture of criticism, inferring from the fact that they have contributed significantly to the decay of democracy through the platforms they provide for this insulting and eccentric mavericks, who do nothing but vent horrendous expletives on each other.
This is the kind of impudent stalwarts our contemporary democracy is churning out and we brace ourselves with the illusive impression that we’re highly democratic.
As long as we remain under the erroneous fantasy of an illusory democratic country, this barrage of problems will continue to haunt us until we wake up and smell the coffee; that trying to promote an agenda as a Political Party does not necessarily mean hurling malignant insults and fabricating obnoxious lies about political opponents, and free speech doesn’t imply the malicious insult of others as if we had no moral training and acceptable character orientations in our homes.
For me, the incessant and relentless exchange of despicable insults and the malignant culture of tarnishing the reputation of each other as well as the ostensible lies are nothing short of "Political Pornography" and apparently evinces the desperation of Political Parties to win power at all cost for their own parochial benefits but not as a means to deal decisively with our shambolic economic situation.
They come to power just to satisfy their greedy and avariciously “never satisfying bellyfoooooools” or perhaps their cohorts and friend to the ultimate detriment of the poor tax payer, who is been bombarded each day with ridiculous tax increments and unprecedented high cost of living…the only thing which keeps reducing is inflation ( which can never be bought in the market)…………………………
Talking about Politics could be quite verbose and lengthy. It’s however clear that the issues have been comprehensively tackled and dealt with. I leave this article to your discerning judgment.
